Imphal, March 13, 2010:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed against the alleged raping of a four year old girl has demanded from the government to arrest the culprit by March 16.
If authority fails to do so, it would result in launching of several agitations, the JAC warned.
A public meeting held Saturday at Iroishemba, Imphal West district, organized by the Iroishemba Youth Development Club and the Meira Paibis (local women activists), formed the JAC.
The meeting resolved that the culprits and his family be ostracized from the locality and therefore the family could come back after the death of the culprit; whosoever found of providing shelter to the culprit would also be ostracized from the locality and the culprit would be held responsible for any untoward incident to the victim and the victim's family.
The culprit and his family were given the deadline to leave the locality by Saturday.
It is worth mentioning that a four year old girl was allegedly raped by a 55 year old man named Chongtham Opendro on Thursday when she had gone to his house for a watching television programme.
When the incident came to light, the irate public of the locality had reportedly attempted to ransack and set ablaze the house of the culprit.
However, the timely intervention of the Indian Reserve Police (IRB) personnel posted in the area controlled the mob.
