Troops of 88 Bn BSF averted a possible loss of huge forest property from wild fire at Langol range close to the BSF camp, Koirangei yesterday afternoon.
According to a statement issued by liaison officer of 88 Bn BSF, Koirengei Sub Inspector Hemant Kumar, the BSF personnel deployed on the hill top noticed that a wild fire on the hillocks of the Lousembam and Mao village was gradually spreading towards the village settlement side.
Acting swiftly at once, a well motivated BSF party with fire fighting equipment rushed, cordoned and controlled over the fire after great effort, the liaison officer said, adding that the fire seemingly flared from burning activities from the jhum cultivation and the inferno raged fast due to dry weather and high wind velocity.
Foresters and civilians also joined the BSF party in controlling the fire, the liaison officer informed, adding that expeditious and timely action of 88 Bn BSF troops and Forest Department official with the help of the local inhabitants prevented possible loss/damage of the Langol forest and the environment.
