Imphal, November 28:
The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (Tangkhul Students Union) has questioned some organisations for imposing a dress code on students studying at various educational institutions in Imphal.
TKS care-taker president and speaker Ramhaoleng Shanglai said that the tribal students and other non-Meitei students studying particularly in Imphal have every reason to express resentments when certain organisations decree that girl students of higher sections should wear only the clothes belonging to the majority community.
Ramhaoleng stated that for long the tribal students have been maintaining patience by giving in to the demands of certain organisations but added we cannot go on remaining passive.
The Tangkhul student leader suggested that instead of dictating that students should wear the attire of a particular community, students of other communities should be allowed to wear their respective attire.
The TKS leader urged the tribal students to defy the diktats of the organisations which had imposed their views and opinions on what to wear and what should not be worn in educational institutions.
