As a part of its ongoing campaign to impart sex education to the adolescents, the Population Education Cell (PEC) of SCERT has taken up interaction session with parents and other professionals of all walks of life.
In continuation of the campaign, an advocacy meeting attended by mediapersons was organised today by PEC at the conference hall of DM College on the topic of 'Integration of Elements of Adolescence Education in School Curriculum'.
The meeting attended by consultant of PEC A Memchoubi, consultant of UNICEF, Dr H Priyokumar and joint secretary of BSEM Ph Nandakumar was presided by officer in charge of DIET, K Sanajaoba and senior officer, Dk Sharma as chief guest and president respectively.
A Memchoubi observed that there has been a misunderstanding of love for sex and vice versa among the adolescents and added that adolescence education has become all the more essential in the wake of pornography and X-rated magazines's easy accessibility.
She also informed that materials and other feedback have been prepared for the inclusion of adolescence education from the next academic session in classes V, VI and VII.
Dr H Priyokumar remarked that HIV/AIDS infection due to intravenous use of drugs is on the decline while infection of HIV/AIDS as a result of unprotected sex has been on the rise.
He further opined that 80/90 per cent of HIV/ AIDS has been a result of unrestricted intermingling of adolescent boys and girls.
