Imphal, November 30 2009:
While appreciating resumption of repairing work of NH 39 by PWD, the Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) has categorically stated that it would not tolerate any compromise on work quality.
In a press release, the students' body asked the department concerned and contractors to ensure that the road repairing work is executed transparently and satisfactorily quality-wise.
Pledging support and cooperation to the ongoing road repairing work, the SDSA appealed to all organisations and individuals not to interfere or disturb the road repairing work but extend cooperation.
Lauding The Sangai Express for its detailed report on misuse of fund sanctioned for development of NH 39 as published on November 23, the SDSA asked the Government to come out in black and white about how it utilised funds sanctioned for NH 39.Misuse of funds by Government officials and blaming law and order and militancy for such corrupt practices has taken heavy toll on the development process, the students' body observed.
"The SDSA will not remain a mere spectator to watch the Rs 39.20 crores vanish again but will monitor closely execution of the work with the fund released by the Centre", it said.
It further demanded early fulfilment of its charter of demands which includes improvement of NH 39 and hand over to BRO, release of PDS materials delayed since many months, establishment of SBI branch at Tadubi and opening of fire brigade stations at Maram and Tadubi.
Cautioning that any further delay to fulfil these demands would invite another series of democratic agitation, the SDSA appealed to the people of Manipur to support and bear with its movement collectively as the principle cause of the movement is welfare of the State and
the people.
