Imphal, November 30 2009:
Doctors of RIMS have been alleged of not maintaining professional ethics in dealing patients needing emergency care.
A heated exchange of words ensued between patient parties and doctors of RIMS casualty ward on November 27 due to alleged unprofessional mannerism of the doctors, said L Premananda (Kokobi) while addressing press
men today.
He alleged that the doctors were attending to their mobile phone call instead of attending the patient who needed emergency care.
Premnanda said, on the night of November 27, a patient was brought to RIMS Casualty ward after she complaint of difficulty in breathing.
As there was no vacant bed in the casualty ward, the patient was made to lie down on the floor.
The condition of the patient deteriorated moment later.
The patient party requested the doctors to pay immediate attention to ease the tension and apprehension of the patient party.
However, the doctors pay little attention to the request, he said.
Instead of taking care of the patient, the lady doctors on duty deeply engaged themselves on their phone calls, Premananda alleged.
Being irked by the manner of the doctors, the patient party expressed their displeasure over their manner.
He said they did not utter stringent words against the doctors.
He alleged that frequent confrontations ensued between the patient parties and doctors due to the egoism of the doctors who also neglected the patients.
He said, the doctors should maintain professional ethics in dealing the patients.
Premananda also reasoned that the order issued by the RIMS authority to shut and leave his canteen at RIMS PG Gents' Hostel within 48 hours for chiding doctors is not justifiable.
He said, his canteen has no relation with the incident.
He also denied the charges leveled against him by the RIMS authority.
He said that he had a scuffle with the security personnel on earlier occasion after he was held by his hair.
