Imphal, November 30 2009:
Opposition parties fail yet to come out with definite decision over their decision to extend support or not to Independent candidate Jaydev Sharma alias Gandhi in the coming by-election to Yaiskul Assembly constituency slated for December 19 .
The MPP and BJP could not arrive at taking definite decision on the matter even as both the parties convened a meeting to discuss the matter today.
The last date for the filing of nomination to the coming by-election is December 2 .
Meanwhile, the BJP, Manipur Pradesh has on Monday decided not to field candidate from the party in the ensuing by-poll.
This was resolved today at a meeting held at its office located at Nityapat Chuthek, Keishampat.
The meeting, however, failed to take a decision over the support of Jaydev Sharma.
The party is said to have decided to continue discussion on the matter in consultation with other leaders of the opposition parties.
President of the BJP, Manipur Pradesh, Dr Haobam Borbabu said that the party will try to ensure the defeat of the Congress in the coming by-poll.
On being asked why the party is not fielding RK Dorendro, the nearest rival of the elected Congress candidate, E Kunjakishore in the last general election, the BJP president said, the possible reason could be that there might have been some inconveniences as he changed his party.
The party will, however, take a final decision tomorrow.
It may be mentioned that RK Dorendro was second to the elected Congress candidate in the last general election.
He contested the election as an MPP candidate.
Dorendro shifted loyalty to the BJP after the general election.
At the same time, the advisory committee and legislature party meeting of the MPP has failed to draw a decision on its decision to support Jaydev Sharma.
The MPP is convening another meeting tomorrow.
The party's office bearers and MPP Yaiskul Kendra Committee members will attend the meeting.
After a marathon meeting today, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Manipur has adopted a decision on which party/candidate to support.
The party decided to make official announcement of its decision tomorrow.
The CPI (M) is also said to come out with a definite decision tomorrow.
