Imphal, October 31 2010:
Showing solidarity to Irom Sharmila crusade against the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act and commemorating her 10 years of fast unto death campaign against the draconian Act, artistes of Thangmeiband would be fasting for a day.
Speaking to media persons this afternoon, president of the newly founded Thangmeiband United Art and Culture Organisation Aribam Syam said that the artistes of Thangmeiband would be fasting on November 2 in solidarity to Sharmila's campaign.
The noted film maker said, "we are morally obliged to join the unsurpassed struggle of Sharmila even if it is for a single day".
"Sometimes we, the artistes, feel forlorn and sad thinking if there is no way Sharmila can achiever her goal", Syam said.
Remarking that the grit and determination of Sharmila is beyond comparison with any woman on Earth, Syam exuded that there must be a solution if anything like spiritual force exists.
He said that a solidarity fast would be staged at Khoyathong Pukhri Achouba Mapal from 8 am to 4 pm of November 2 .
Syam also expressed his wish to observe the first week of November as the Week of Sharmila.
He further proposed to all the people of Manipur to pray for Sharmila's life at every church, masjids, temples and each and every household.
Vice-president of the organisation, former AIR Imphal Director, Sagolsem Indrakumar said that the scheduled fasting is neither a political move nor influenced by any group.
