The Tribal Development Department, the only department looking after affairs of tribals in the state is in a defunct state.
This situation has come up after the retirement of most of the senior officers on superannuation, source in the department observed.
Among others, difficulties faced by the tribal students are non-availability of dealing officers including deputy director and DDO when they come to the office to get their scholarships.
The same inconveniences are also being faced by people coming from far off places for specific purposes.
Many of them had to return home after staying many days in hotels without realizing their purposes due to the absence of officials.
Beneficiaries of various schemes and reimbursement of medical treatment expenses to be refunded have not distributed for the last two years.
The absence of top officials has also affected the functioning of the office as junior staff members are less experienced in official processes.
They could not prepare bills for withdrawal of salaries.
Due to such mistakes, many of the employees have not been getting their salaries for around two years.
Interestingly, due to absence of computer technicians, the computerized pay bills could not be extracted from the computer file.
In such a situation, many staff members are also dissatisfied in the functioning of their office.
Many drew attention of the concerned minister and higher authorities.
Amidst this, there is still the need of monitoring the implementation of various schemes whether it has reached the actual beneficiaries, they observed.
