As in other parts of the country, the death anniversary of first woman Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi was observed today as Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas (National Re-dedication Day) at Ist Manipur Rifles parade ground here today.
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and Power Minister Phungzathang Tonsing were respectively the chief guest and president of the observance function which was also attended by Ministers, MLAs and other top officials of Government.
Speaking at the occasion, Ibobi hailed late Indira Gandhi as a leader who dedicated her life not only to the service of the poor people of her country but also work for world peace at the International level.
She was a leader with a vision, he added.
Observing that India Gandhi sacrificed her life for the cause of integrity of the country, Ibobi exhorted that every Indian citizen should try to imbibe such sacrificial spirit and renewed their pledge for a united and progressive India.
In his presidential address, Minister Phungzathang Tonsing said that all the people in Manipur, irrespective of their communities, caste and creed, should live together in peace and work together for the development of the State.
