A couple had to take back their newly born baby which they attempted to abandon.
Police have registered a case against them.
Moirangthem Robert Singh (33) son of M Robit of Moirang Bazar Maning Moirangthem Leikai and 30-year old Sonibala said to be the wife of Robert abandoned their newly born baby on the roadside near the RIMS gate at about 8 pm last night.
The baby was found on the roadside by one Thingbaijam Nogen Singh (43) of Jiribam Sorok Atingbi and his wife presently staying at RIMS quarter coming from the Officer's Club after work on a rickshaw.
His wife picked up the baby and they started searching for the parents with local womenfolk.
Later, they found the parents at help from the Gynea ward of RIMS Hospital, Imphal.
After proper verification, the baby was handed over to them.
However, Lamphel police registered a case against the parents of the baby under section 317/307/34 IPC.
Section 317 relates with exposure of a child under 12 years of age by parents or persons having care of it with intention of wholly abandoning it which is punishable for seven years imprisonment or fine, or both and 307 relates with attempt to murder (if such act causes hurt to any person punishable with life imprisonment or imprisonment for 10 years and fine.
