Planning Commission member (NE in-charge) BK Chaturvedi and Advisor (NE) SN Brahmo Choudhury today visited the border town and discussed issues related to development of the ongoing border trade between India and Myanmar.
The two officials arrived at the border town in a special chopper at around 10 am today.
Soon after their arrival, the two officials went to inspect the site where the Integrated Check Post (ICP) is to be constructed.
From there, they visited Moreh Gate no.II as well as the Namphalong market of Myanmar.
At the occasion, Deputy Commissioner of Chandel H Deleep briefed the visiting officials on the current status of the border trade between the two neighbouring countries.

From Namphalong market, the official team of the Planning Commission directly proceeded to Moreh Hospital to get a first hand account on the existing infrastructures of the hospital.
Officials of the State Health Department also took the opportunity of highlighting the problems of lack of infrastructure and inadequate medical staff in the hospital.
After the inspection visit, the Planning Commission officials held a joint meeting with the officials of various Departments of the State Government at the conference hall of Moreh Trade Centre.
CO of 31 Assam Rifles, BRTF officials and representatives of North East Federation on International Trade (NEFIT) were also present in the meeting during which officials of the related Departments provided update information on the ongoing border trade to the visiting Planning Commission team.
To ensure proper functioning of the border trade, State Food Analyst proposed for setting up a food processing centre at Moreh while president of Border Trade Chamber of Commerce, Moreh V Shekhar proposed for including some more trade items.
Principal Secretary of Commerce and Industries O Nabakishore observed that development of border trade activities has been hampered on account of frequent bandhs and other unwanted activities.
The trade volume (import & export) in the last 9 years has been recorded as Rs 1,78,90,95,081.However, in informal trade, the trade volume recorded is around Rs 1.50 crores daily.
Lunminthang Haokip of ADC Moreh and other local leaders emphasised on the need for urbanisation of Moreh town for further development of border trade.
Commenting on the discussion of the meeting, BK Chaturdevi assured that due attention would be given to the urbanisation of Moreh town and infrastructural requirements of Moreh Hospital would be taken care of.
In view of the move being made to include other ASEAN countries in the border trade, he also assured that the demand for development of National Highway 39 and increasing the number of trade items would be taken up with the Union Ministry concerned.
Chaturdevi also wished that the proposed bus service between Imphal and Mandalay be realised soon.
After the meeting, the visiting Planning Commission officials left for Imphal at around 11.20 am.
