Imphal, April 01 2009:
Inclement weather prevented a proposed visit by the Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to Senapati district headquarters in connection with an election campaign for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Chief Minister of the neighbouring State was supposed to land at the district headquarters in a helicopter today afternoon.
According to an informed source, the proposed visit of Rio was neither communicated officially to the Government of Manipur nor intimated to the Senapati district administration.
Information regarding the aborted itinerary of Rio was reportedly conveyed to the Chief Secretary by the Senapati district Deputy Commissioner.
It is also informed that only the IGP (Intelligence) of Nagaland had only contacted SP (Senapati) on Rio's proposed visit.
However, as the visit was not intimated through the proper channel the district administration as well as the State police headquarters neither reciprocated officially nor approved the visit.
Apart from mentioning that Nagaland police authorities confirmed cancellation of the tour programme to the SP of Senapati police citing bad weather at around 11.30 am today, the Senapati DC's message to the Chief Secretary also urged for taking up the matter at the appropriate level to maintain protocol.
