Imphal, April 01 2009:
Hurling back the charged diatribe against the MPP by the CPI Minister, Parijat who dubbed the MPP as 'paper tiger,' the MPP today categorically hits back the CPI minister's statement.
"On the allegation that the MPP only comes out to roar during election time, Mr Parijat's memory is failing him as the MPP was the party that spearheaded the agitation against the Congress in 1972 to attain statehood for Manipur.
The CPI was probably hiding at that time while the MPP was the real 'tiger' leading from the front," states the MPP General Secretary (Publicity), S Umananda in a press statement today.
To the question of MPP no living upto its role as an opposition party, the MPP's missive directed Parijat to remember that the MPP remains at least in the Opposition bench while his party-the CPI-has been busy trying to hold on to power even after the CPI had withdrawn its support to the Congress at the Centre.
It asks, "Who is the more power-hungry between the two?" while contending that the public can answer fittingly by coming out to vote for the right party in the forthcoming elections.
At least the MPP MLAs have raised their voices in the Assembly as expected by the people who mandated them in a democratic set up while the comrades of the CPI are busy hobnobbing with the Congress for a few crumbs (ministership for Parijat) instead of raising voices against the failure of the Government to provide any semblance of governance to the people of the state, the statement charged.
The statement also recalls that Parijat was dispossessed of the FCS Ministership unceremoniously due to reasons well known to everyone while also recollecting that there was acute shortage of Kerosene oil during his tenure as FCS Minister.
"As to whether who will succeed and make an impact in the forthcoming elections, it should be left to the wisdom of the people who will choose a representative capable of delivering goods and not hypocritical persons from duplicitous parties," the statement candidly concludes.
