Imphal, April 01 2009:
The keeping of educational institutions within the purview of the general strike called by the JAC formed in connection with the murder of Kasom Khullen SDO, Dr Kishan and his two sub-ordinate staffs, Rajen and Token has received a strong protest from two students bodies, AMSU and DESAM.
The turning down of the proposal to relax educational institutions during the 24-hour general strike hours by the JAC is taken seriously, said AMSU president, Jamesbond Mangang speaking at a joint press conference held at DESAM office today.
Mention may be made that the JAC has called 24-hour general strike from midnight tonight till midnight of next day (April 2) .
It has been an appeal since long time to keep educational institutions by the students bodies in the state not to keep educational institutions outside the purview of the general strike, he reiterated and appealed once again to relax all educational related matters during the general strike.
He also asked students to attend schools and teachers to discharge their duty during the general strike without fail cautioning that DESAM and AMSU will conduct joint inspection to schools tomorrow and action will be taken to those school if found close.
DESAM general secretary, Y Ratankumar who also spoke at the press conference said that now time has come to launch a mass protest against killing people in the state without daybreak.
If the trend is not check well in time, Manipuri society may vanish one day from the earth, he worried.
He also blamed the state as well as Central government for the non-stop killing of people expressing doubt of having a hidden agenda of the government behind the murder of the SDO Dr Kishan and his two sub-ordinate staffs.
By calling general strike and staging sit-in protest, nothing positive outcome will come up as despite people protests, not only the non-state agencies but also security forces are indulging in killing people in unrestrained way.
"Mine of the opinion to stop doing such kinds of protest which amount to hurting ourselves," Jamesbond observed expressing the need of choosing other options.
AMSU and DESAM will extend full corporations to other forms of agitations which do not disturb the academic atmosphere of the educational institutes.
