SOME underground elements today closed down some schools preparing for participation in the march-pass competition in the Republic Day Celebration this year even as security in the state has been tight up in wake of celebration of the day on January 26 .
Cadres of one of the underground outfits which have been imposing ban on the people participation in the celebration as a part of boycott to all national occasions in the state intruded to the schools and after having talks with the concern heads of the schools warned them not to participate in the celebration, reports said.
They have warned to at least six schools located in various parts of the state.
Among the schools that Hve received warning included Tamphasana Higher Secondary School, Central Jail Road, CC Higher Secondary School, Sanjenthong and Ibotosana Higher Secondary School, Uripok-Kangchup Road, the report added.
Apart from talking to the principals of these schools, the members of the underground outfit also directly meet with the students preparing for the march-pass and warned them not to participate in the march-pass, the source said.
Mention may be made that the students who are to participate in the march-pass competition have already started practices at the parade ground of the 1st Manipur Rifles from yesterday and they received the warning after returning from practice of the day.
It could also be recalled that many underground organizations operating in the state like the Revolutionary People Front (RPF) and United National Liberation Front, UNLF have been boycotting the Republic Day and other national events in the state with a diktat to the people not to participate in such occasions.
