ALTHOUGH THERE has been a lack of 95% of the basic facilities in the Tamei area, MLA N Awangbow has expressed optimism that things are moving on the right track and that the area will witness a sea-change soon.
The MLA then assured that by the year 2010, all the villages in the Tamei area will be electrified.
However, he urged the government to address the plights of the area at utmost urgency.
Speaking as a chief guest at the nine-day Kuilong Area Sports Meet at Kuilong ground in Tamei subdivision, some 185 km from Imphal, MLA N Awangbow stated that lack of infrastructure has shunned various opportunities of the youths in our society when their counter-parts in other countries are conquering the space.

Given this scenerio, the MLA opined that the gap between the developed and under-developed places needs to be narrowed down so that "our youths are given a platform to display their talents".
The MLA also inspected the Kuilong area in the last few days and came across various farce state of affairs when comes to development perspective.
Harping on the roads in the area, Awangbow said that the 57 km long road of Tamei-Kuilong is one of the oldest roads in the state but till date the condition of the road is extremely pathetic.
He said that the people in the area take 6 hours when they should be spending just little more than an hour to travel between Tamei and Kuilong.
However, the MLA revealed that now from 0-6 km the black-topping in the road has completed and also that from 6km to 14km along the road the condition has immensely improved and its just ready for the construction of drainage system and needed culverts.From 14km to 32 kmthe road is being repaired under PMGSY while the remaining portion will be addressed soon.
On the non-posting of an officer at Kuilong SDC office Awangbow assured that an officer will be posted soon there very soon.He further assured that all the villages that had not been attended by the various developmental programmes, the villagers will enjoy the benefits under the Backward Region Grand Fund (BRGF) a community hall each, inter-village roads, school buildings and other facilities.
On the communication front, the MLA disclosed that a BSNL tower each will be installed at Upper Takou and Thenjang villages for the smooth operation of telephones.
Winding up his tour, Awangbow inspected the road construction work under PMGSYand PWD in the area and also at the landslide prone Turibari near Kangpokpi along the IT Road.
The MLA said that no specific programme has been allotted for the Turibari landslide prone area and urged the concern to take up necessary steps so that the people of the IT Road area and the denizens of Tamei subdivision's nightmare of passing through the area gets over during rainy season.
Meanwhile, the Kuilong Area Sports Meet has been participated by over 24 teams which will conclude on January 22.During the programme MLA Awangbow donated numerous sports items and cash to the organising committee.
The sports meet was attended by social worker of the area as a guest of honour who exhorted that sports-persons should possess the quality of sportsmanship and sporty spirit or else no sport persons can achieve the Mary kom, Dingku and the likes did.Others who attended the programme were social worker Kaiphuibou and officers and engineers from PWD and forest department.
