Imphal, January 30 2009:
THE ALL Manipur Students' Union, Manipur (AMSU) in a statement refuted and condemned action of the government for keeping six government school teachers including five principals and one teacher in police remand simply for non compliance to an order issued by the Director, Directorate of Education (S) M Hare Krishna in connection with the Republic Day celebration.
AMSU also said that arresting of teachers by power is not an acceptable step, it is a violation of the right to live of the teachers
by government.
The reason for the teachers and their contingents not participating in the Republic Day despite they were ready till the eleventh hour as reported on January 25 edition of local daily newspaper circulating as indicated that there was something behind their non-participation.
The government should have provided protection and precautions to the teachers before the celebration rather than showing severity after the celebration.
AMSU also appealed not to keep the knowledge imparting teachers of the state in a dilemma and to release all the teachers without any conditions as soon as possible.
