RECOGNIZING THE works she does for the welfare of the women and children and successful implementation of various income generating programmes for the weaker section of the society, the chief functionary of the Women Income Generating Centre, Indira Oinam has been honoured with prof Yaswanrao Kelkar Yuba Purushkar, 2008 instituted by the Akhil Bharati Vidhyathi Parishad and Vidhya Pithi.
The award accompanied a cash amount of Rs 1,11,111, a trophy, shawl, memento and certificate and handed over to the awardee on January 25 last in a function held in connection with a national convention in Maharastra organized by the Akhil Bharati Vidhyathi Parishad.
In an interaction with the awardee today at WICC office, Thoubal, Indira said the cash amount she received with the amount she get, it has been decided to buy eatables and rice for distribution to the orphan children at the children homes running in the state.
She will also distributed Rs 1000 each to 10 students who are preparing for the HSLC exam.
To select the students, a committee will also be formed, she added.
If among the 10 students secure top position in the HSLC, she will confer "Indira award" to them.
Further she will give Rs 1000 each to five selected people with disabilities apart from building a hall for the WICC home and cash award will also be distributed to 10 students of the WICC centre who are excellent in their trades.
