A WATER supply scheme constructed by the state public health engineering department under the non-lapsable pool of resources (NLCPR) at Luwanglong in Khoupum of Tamenglong district was inaugurated today by the state PHED and tourism minister TN Haokip.
The inaugural function graced by PHED, Tourism and IPR minister TN Haokip as chief guest was presided by MPCC president Gaikhangam.
PHED principal secretary PC Lamgunga, Tamenglong DC in-charge RH Golmei, additional chief engineer HS Vari Pam and SP Tamenglong Lokho also attended as guest of honours of the function.
TN Haokip while speaking at the function said that water should be used with care by maintaining and preserving the water source while cautioning the people that one day water shortage will be faced.
People should prepare to face scarcity of water by preserving the water source areas.
It is sure to dry up water storing centres by the impact of the global warming, he said adding that it will also affect to the jhumming cultivation.
So, every body must carefully utilize the source of water like the river, lake and stream.
Gaikhangam who spoke as president on the occasion said that naturally thick forests are sources of water.
So, if trees are felling down uncheck, it is sure to dry up the water sources.
Many places which once water source had vanished due to deforestation.
Knowing this, people now started preserving the forest.
The work of the water supply scheme inaugurated today was sanctioned in March 2005 .
The estimated cost of the scheme was Rs 148.516 lakhs and its target is to supply safe drinking water to 7113 heads of 10 villages located in the surrounding by 2021 .
The scheme will have 20 water tanks including two treatment plants.
