WITH THE theme "Don't look down and ill-treat the leprosy patients" the state too observed the Anti-Leprosy Day today like in other parts of the country with a function at state Leprosy Hospital at Lei-ingkhol, Chnigmeirong.
The day, on which the father of the nation Mahatama Gandhi was shot dead 61 year back, the country is also observed as anti-leprosy day.
The state function at Lei-ingkhol was graced by director of state health service Dr Motilal as chief guest, leprosy officer Dr Surkumar as president and deputy director, health services Dr Ritendra as guest of honour.
Motilal who spoke as chief guest said that with the advancement in medical science, leprosy can be cured and in the state the disease like totally eliminated, only the green signal for declaration of it is awaiting.
He also said that the effort of the district leprosy society Imphal with the national leprosy eradication programme of the centre, the state is able to eliminate the disease.
