IN A spectacular finale of the Kuki Idol 2008-09, Lenchung Haokip, conte-stant No-95, of Tuinom Village in Churach-andpur District has come out in flying colours winning the much coveted title and accompanying prizes last night.
Jampao Lenthang, contestant No-278 of Song-pijang, NC Hills (Assam) and Hoineichong Tout-hang of Chengkawn, contestant No-326 won the second and the third prizes respectively.
The first prize carries a brand new Activa and Rs 10,000.The second and the third prizes carry cash prizes of Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 each.
The third prize has been donated by Rose Mangshi Haokip, retd Senior Grade Lecturer.
The month-long, much awaited final round of the Kuki Idol contest was held in a jampacked community hall located at B Vengnuam at Churacha-ndpur town, with a lot of music and entertainments.
Popular singers and musicians kept the huge audience of over 3,000 people spellbound.
Among the dignitaries present were Pi Lhaijanieng Gangte (first woman tribal MLA) DC Churachandpur, Sumant Singh, Pi Rose Mangshi Haokip (first tribal woman MA), President, Kuki Inpi Churachandpur (KIC), Khaipao Haokip, Assistant Commandant -140 Bn BSF, DK Garg, Ex-MP Pi Kim Gangte.
DC, Pu Sumant Singh, in his speech, said that a huge crowd participation in the function was a sign of success.
He has been in Churachandpur for more than one year and found few entertainments, but Kuki Idol is one of the best entertainments, he said.
He donated a sum of Rs.20,000 to Kuki Idol Committee.
