Lamka, August 22:
To streamline Public Distribution System a record number of Fair Price Shops were officially inaugurated today within the township locality of Lamka alone.
Making its debut in the district each of the Fair Price shops that will provide BPL rice and SK Oil to the public consumers within a particular polling station was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur district Sumant Singh.
The system is aimed at better co-ordination and viability of better monetary returns as it instantly quashes the old system of appointing separate agents for the commercially viable K Oil and less viable BPL supplies.
Even as the Dc went on the inauguration spree initial hiccups were reported mainly on lack of adherence to the written rules.
In most cases, the price quoted for the rice and K Oil during the presence of the DC and the actual sale price after he left differed to a large extent.
In the worst case, disparity of price ran upto to three rupees a kilogram or a litre of the items.
The onset of FPS itself is an achievement, yet they could easily be filled with shortcomings in the absence of corrective measures at the earliest.
Another disturbing development throughout the melee today is the way agents gave the whole affair a political colour.
In some cases, except for the rice and K Oil placed inside the building the whole exercise resembled an election campaign as party caps were randomly worn, besides badges and flags adorning the FPSs.
Meanwhile, addressing media persons at his office chamber later today, Sumant Singh said the novel measures adopted will be subjected to flaws initially, but assured appropriate measures to eliminate any flaw in future.
