Imphal, August 22:
The All Colleges Tribal Students' Organisation, Manipur (ACTSOM) today resolved to go ahead with its 24 hours state wide bandh on August 27.ACTSOM information and publicity secretary, Tennyson Mashangva cited government's failure to act positively in settling things through discussion on the table for deciding on the stir.
As such, the government should in the first place initiate negotiation or dialogue whenever any issue is raised so as to avoid bandhs or blockades, conveyed Tennyson.
The ACTSOM said, before any organisation resorts to calling bandhs, blockades or strikes to voice their grievances, it will be a wise step if the government initiate discussion involving both the parties to redress grievances raised by the particular party.
On their proposed bandh, Mashangva also affirmed ACTSOM's stand to go ahead with their earlier decision to enforce 24 hours state wide bandh beginning from midnight of August 26."Since the state government failed to fulfil our demand for taking up fitting action against the four MLAs who had physically assaulted ACTSOM activists on July 30, we are constrained to go ahead according to our ultimatum served to the Chief Minister", cautioned the ACTSOM statement.
It further went on to say that, the state government should bear the loss incurred by it.
It also cautioned that imposing ban on bandh, strikes and blockade will certainly create wider gap between the power that be and the common people in the long run.
Meanwhile, Movement for Tribal People's Rights, Manipur, MTPRM in a press release endorsed the stand of ACTSOM and expressed its total support to the agitation.
The MTPRM expressed shock over the July 30 incident and urged the erring MLAs and the security force personnel to tender their apology in the larger interest of the general public.
The MTPRM is of the opinion that the chief minister should intervene in the unfortunate matter.
