Imphal, August 22:
Questioning the rationale behind singling out Sadar Hills as a 'problem district' despite having equal number of MDCs, CEOs and other infrastructure with other districts, the Kuki Movement for Human Rights (KMHR) has demanded the State Government to explain the inordinate delay in granting full fledged revenue district status to Sadar Hills.
A press release issued by KMHR asked the State Govt as to why Sadar Hills has been forced to remain subordinate to Senapati district even as Sadar Hills was designated as a revenue district together with all the other hill districts.
Recalling of the repeated failures of the successive State Governments to fulfil their promises to convert Sadar Hills to a revenue district on one side and rallies, blockades and bandhs on the other, the KMHR observed that such people's agitation have caused violation of human rights, loss of properties and adverse economic impacts.
While asking the State Government to work out an arrangement so that the scheduled 48 hours bandh beginning from August 23 is called off to prevent losses, the KMHR demanded that the Government should compensate the losses incurred by Sadar Hills people over the years in pursuit of their demand to make Sadar Hills a full fledged revenue district.
