Imphal, August 22:
In protest against the bomb attack carried out by some unidentified persons at the residence of Veterinary Director at about 11 am yesterday, employees of the Department staged a sit-in-protest in front of their office complex at Sanjenthong today.
During the protest sitting staged under the aegis of the All Manipur Veterinary and Animal Husbandry and Dairying Employees' Union, the protesters held placards which read as, "Don't loot people in the name of patriotism", "Punish perpetrators of bomb and firing attacks", "Give up gun culture", "We want peace and development for a better future" etc.
Taking strong exception to the series of attacks perpetrated by a particular group which commenced with firing at the residence of the VAH Department's DDO on July 22, threatening the cashier with warning fire on August 5 and yesterday's bomb attack at the Director's residence, the employees maintained that neither the Union nor the high-ranking officials should make any blunder to bring a compromised understanding with any unlawful organisation.
Meanwhile, the Soibam Leikai Ayangpalli Road Youth Club has also condemned the bomb attack.
Through a press release, the club appealed to all concerned not to undertake such attacks in populated areas.
On the other hand, protesting against a very similar incident of firing at the Khagempalli Panthak residence of Deputy Director of Agriculture Department N Ibopishak at about 12.10 pm of August 20, Meira Paibis staged a protest sitting at Khagempalli today.
Here too, the protestors hold placards inscribed, "Don't fire at civil residences", "We condemn firing at civilian areas", "Don't harass civilians", "We want peace" etc.
The Meira Paibis also appealed to all concerned not to repeat such acts of intimidation in future.
