Imphal, December 16 2009:
Exhorting the people of Yaiskul Assembly Constituency not be tempted by the money power offered by the young Ministers and MLAs of the Congress, former Chief Minister RK Dorendra has asserted that it is a shame on democracy that efforts are being made to buy votes with money.
The people of Yaiskul AC should not earn the ignominy of their votes being bought, he exhorted.
To address the law and order situation as well as to seek justice for the July 23 BT Road incident, the Opposition parties decided to back the candidature of Independent candidate H Jayadeva to ensure the defeat of the Congress, said Dorendra.
Only the victory of H Jayadeva will ensure the victory of the people, he claimed.
Upping the credentials of H Jayadeva, the former Chief Minister said that another reason for supporting him is because he is one personality who can positively contribute towards solving the many issues confronting Manipur.
The July 23 BT Road incident is a prime example of the Government not having any control on the law and order situation, he added.
The demand for the resignation of the Chief Minister, post July 23, is a telling example of how the present Government has failed to protect the lives of the civilians, said Dorendra and added that this is a unified voice.
Taking pot shots at the Chief Minister, the former Chief Minister said that the demand of the people can be met by simply changing the leadership.
A member of the Congress MLA can be appointed as the Chief Minister, he asserted.
All ought to support the H Jayadeva in consonance with the support extended to the Apunba Lup and other forms of protests, in connection with the July 23 incident, he added.
It is along this line that the Opposition parties have decided to support Independent candidate H Jayadeva.
If the Congress candidate is defeated, then it would mean sending out a clear message that all the people of Manipur are against the present Government.
A number of Opp leaders also addressed the meeting.
