The campaign period for the ensuing by-election to 14-Yaiskul Assembly Constituency scheduled to be held on December 19 will wind up by 3 pm tomorrow.
With a view to ensure smooth conduct of the by-election, Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur PC Lawmkunga has conveyed for the information of general public, contesting candidates, election agents, political parties and their workers that political functionaries/party workers of any political party, procession functionaries, campaign functionaries or group, etc who have been brought from outside the Constituency and who are not voters of the Constituency, should leave the Constituency immediately on conclusion of the campaign period.
In a statement, the Chief Electoral Officer has also directed that movement of vehicles inside the Constituency immediately after the close of campaign period should be watched strictly by the DCs/District Election Officers, Imphal East and Imphal West and the Superintendents of Police of the said two districts.
Any lapse in this regard will be viewed seriously and appropriate necessary actions will be taken in consultation with the Election Commission of India, the CEO warned.
The CEO also appealed to all the political parties, contesting candidates, election agents, political workers and all concerned to co-operate with the district authorities/police authorities to ensure compliance of these standing instructions of the Election Commission so as to enable free and fair conduct of the by-election.
