Vehicle of the Sub-Division Police Officer (SDPO) Chandel intervened in attacking a civilian vehicle carrying ailing person by protestors during 24-hour Chandel district today, was smashed by the protestors.
The 24-hour bandh was called by the Maring Students Union charging irregular practices in the recruitment process for the appointment of primary teachers of the schools under Autonomous District Council in Chandel district.
Windshields of several vehicles plying along the Imphal-Moreh section of the NH-39 were broken down by the protestors who took to the street on the highway.
Police commandos later escorted the vehicles in crossing Tamnapokpi and forest gate areas of the district where protestors disturbed the normal passage of vehicles.
At around 11 am, protestors smashed the windshields of a van bearing registration no.MN-01K-7049 transporting an ailing person from Chandel district headquarters to hospital.
The van was badly damage by the protestors before the knowing the purpose of the vehicle being ply defying the bandh.
A Gypsy vehicle allotted to the SDPO Chandel that rushed to the spot near the St Paul High School at Liwa Chaning where the Maruti van attacked was also smashed by the protestors.
Front windshield of the police vehicle was totally damaged by the protestors.
The bandh which was concluded midnight today was imposed by the Maring Students Union alleging malpractices in the process for recruitment of primary teachers under ADC Chandel.
Speaking to some media persons, MSU president TC Menaishim said that in the interview held on October 11 last for the appointment of primary teachers of schools under ADC, many malpractices had done by the authorities.
While leveling the charge, he pointed out that authorities make the list from serial no.1 to 170 and keep reserved for candidates bring out from their pocket and allowed them to seat in the exam at different centres.
The said candidates were those who were appointed in 2006 on temporary basis and terminated later.
In this regard MSU had requested TD minister concerned.
He also assured to rectify if any malpractice found but no action taken up so far, he lamented.
Re-examination should be conducted, otherwise MSU will continue to protest against the malpractices till justice is delivered with intensified forms of agitations, he warned.
