Imphal, March 22 2010:
United Committee Manipur (UCM) has urged upon the State Government to shift the site for setting up of 400 KV power station at Yurembam to another place where people do not have any qualm.
It also warned that the UCM would not remain silent if the Government fails to take up any development activity without sensing the pulse of the masses.
According to a press release issued by its Information and Publicity Secretary Kh Nilamani Kha-Nganba, Manipur is currently dependant to other States for food stuffs as Manipur has less cultivable lands in comparison to population.
At this juncture, the press release said, the State Government must not acquire cultivable land in the name of developmental activities.
Maintaining that the State does not get the required benefit from Loktak Hydro Electric Project, UCM asserted that the same is visible in Yurembam land acquisition as well.
