Government is doing its best for the development of hill areas by investing at the rate of Rs 6 per head per year but none try to know this, said state principal secretary (Tribal Development and Hills, LP Gonmei while decrying that government neglect hill people speaking at the inaugural function of a community hall at Hongmahn (Khongbal) village on Sunday.
Government is giving special attention to the hill areas for the improvement of road and bridge communications, schools, healthcare centres.
Infrastructures development works also going on, Golmei said criticizing of not investigating to know funds released for development of hill areas by the government.
None take interest in finding out to know how much funds were released in the hill areas except blaming repeatedly government saying that they were neglected, Gonmei said.
Government is spending Rs 6 per head in hill areas per year.
This show that government is doing its best for the hill people, the principal secretary said while inaugurating the community hall constructed by the Manipur Development Society.
Even in the implementation of the most promising flagship programme, NREGS, instead of trying to extracting the maximum benefits of the scheme, hill villages are confronting each other for the post of village chief.
Quarrels among the villages in hill areas increased with the implementation of NREGS even though the flagship programme aims at giving jobs to every heads in the rural areas, the state Principal Secretary said speaking at the inaugural function of a community hall constructed by the Manipur Development Society.
Quarrels among the villagers of hill villages on the race for village chief are on the rise since the coming of NREGS in the state, Golmei said.
He further said that it is not possible on the part of the government to satisfy all the people at a time.
Individuals also need to work hard by searching works with their own efforts.
Due to lack of understanding and the ideology of living together led to the emergent of smaller villages in the hill areas.
This caused inconveniences in taking up developmental works.
Hill people should try to settle at permanent places where they are settling for the convenient of taking up developmental works.
Blaming of government for neglecting the hill people is coming due to lack of knowledge, the principal secretary further observed.
