The reason for the increase of the drug users in the state of Manipur is the accessibility of the intoxicants and the government is culpable for it, stated Dollar, president of Revolutionary Youth Federation of India (RYFI), Manipur State committee at a press meet held Monday at Imphal.
Meanwhile, as a means to stop the proliferating use of intoxicants in the state, Revolutionary Youth Federation of India (RYFI), Manipur State committee on Monday formed a group christened as Peace and Dignity Council (PDC).
Speaking to media persons, Dollar stated that the council is being formed to bring back the drug addicts of the state into normal life.
He asserted that the root cause of increasing anti social activities in the state is owing to the accessibility to the intoxicant elements to the youths that has led them to stray into wrong path.
Furthermore, use of such intoxicants has apparently increased the diseases such as HIV/AIDS in the society.
This has become a big problem to the society, added Dollar.
Meanwhile, he informed that PDC have a total of 11 units in 10 districts of the state led by one member (counselor).
Each unit comprise of 20 drug addicts.
In the first phase, 200 drug addicts would be counseled people, stated Dollar.
He further stated that the PDC would inculcate the habit of work culture to the drug addicts.
This would be an approach to ban or stop the use of intoxicants, added Dollar.
He also held the government responsible for the easy availability of the intoxicants in the state.
He also added that the government is not taking seriously of the increasing drug addicts in the state.
Meanwhile, decrying the physical assault of one government official by miscreants, the employees of the DC, office Ukhrul staged sit-in-protest Monday in front of the office gate.
It is worth mentioning that the government official who is working as an assistant researcher officer in planning department was beaten up by some miscreants on Sunday.
They condemned the act of beating up the government official without any reason and also stated that if there was any reason the matter should have been brought at the negotiating table.
