Imphal, March 22 2010:
The Khuga Multi-purpose Project is all set for commissioning as soon as the water level of the project's reservoir rises to the requisite point, said Irrigation and Flood Control (IFC) Minister N Biren.
Interacting with the Sangai Express today, the Minister said at present the water level is about 24 feet below the requisite point and as such formal commissioning of the project would have to be deferred till it rises to the expected level.
Informing that Project related works have been completed, Biren pointed out that supply of drinking water has already commenced apart from providing water to a distance of 20 kilometre from the Project site.

Moreover, preparations have been made for extending the irrigation water provision to a distance of 50 kilometres, the Minister confided while reiterating that as the present level of water in the dam is below the average level the official inauguration of the Project has to be deferred for some time.
Regarding generation of power from the Project, he stated that the matter is being discussed with the Central Water Commission.
Civil works related to construction of power house has already been completed, Biren added.
