Employees of the Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner Office Monday protested against the assault of one of their colleagues by miscreants on last Saturday even as a vehicle of an IRB man hijacked in another unrelated incident in Imphal today.
One Shyamo, working as assistant research officer of the state planning department attached to the DC Office Ukhrul was beaten up by some miscreants on last March 20 at his office.
He received injury in the assault.
Decrying the act of the miscreants suspected to be underground activists, staff of the DC office staged a sit-in protest at the office complex during the office hour from 10.30 am till 1 pm today affected to the normal work of the office for the day, a report received here said.
Employees demanded everything settle through talks if any misunderstanding arises out in the discharging their duties.
They also urged not to exert pressure on them with regard to the implementation of welfare schemes.
In another unrelated incident, a private vehicle (407 tata bearing registration no.MN01A-5955) belonging to an IRB man has been hijacked by some unknown persons after stopping him near the Lilong Bridge along the Imphal-Moreh section of the NH-39 today at about 11.30 am.
Five miscreants beaten up the Havildar, Kshetrimayum Jotinkumar of 1st IRB and taken away the vehicle, police said.
Police are on hectic efforts to find out the hijacked vehicle.
Yet in another incident in Bishnupur district, a hand grenade was found hanging at the gate of the residence of an assistant engineer of PWD office of the district by suspected activists of KCP(MC) this morning, at about 7.45 am.
A piece of paper asking the engineer, Rabi of Ningthoukhong under Bishnupur district, to contact him with them signed by project officer Athouba of KCP (MC) was also found near the bomb.
The bomb threat was related with a monetary demand of Rs 10 lakh from the engineer, police said adding that the group has been pressing the engineer to meet their demand for the last few days with a warning of hitting him at anytime.
