Imphal, November 13 2008:
WHILE EXPRESSING apprehension of affecting the transportation of school students, Van Owners Educated Self Employed School Services Association, Imphal today has appealed to all concerned to relax the economic blockade for the time being as annual examinations are knocking at the door.
The association in a statement said that due to non-availability of fuel for the vehicles, owing to the prolonged economic blockade on the NH-39, the service of the school vans has started getting affected and if the situation continues further, the service is likely to be suspended.
Even if the school vans stop transporting the students and leave the responsibility of transporting the students to the parents and guardians, they would also face the same problems as petrol is not issued by the oil pumps in the state.
This will give a great impact to the students at the examination timing, the statement said.
Van service operators are not of rich class people who could afford in keeping fuel stock in home and they are not in the position to buy fuels at the presently witnessing hiking of prices of same in the black markets.
In such condition, there is no option but to stop services till the fuel is available which will amount to affect the education sector as a consequence of fuel scarcity even though people are calling to keep the education sector outside the purview all forms of disturbances.
Considering the problems to be faced by the students and hearing to the call of the people not to affect education sectors, the association appealed to all concerns to relax the economic blockade for some times.
