IN CONTINUATION of the series of civic action programmes being taken up by the Assam Rifles, a group of 20 children from Manipur's interior villages who have never seen trains in their life would be getting an opportunity to enjoy the train-ride as part of their fortnight-long educational tour to New Delhi.
A group of 20 school children including five girls from Sehlon, Phoilen, Wayang, Tuitong, Kovang, Old Samtal, Tuileng and Moljol villages in Chandel district bordering Myanmar accompanied by their three teachers would be on the tour.

Their educational tour, sponsored and organized by troops of 44 Assam Rifles under it's Pallel based 26 Sector, was flagged off by Major General A K Choudhury, Inspector General of Assam Rifles, on the eve of the Children's Day celebration on this morning.
Speaking at the flagging off ceremony, which was attended by Brigadier Balbir Singh, Deputy Inspector General and Commander of 26 Sector, dignitaries from District Administration and persons from media at Pallel, Major General Choudhary exhorted the participating children from the interior areas to learn and enjoy themselves during their tour.
Commander 26 Sector Assam Rifles Brigadier Balbir while interacting with the children & teachers emphasized on importance of learning and widening of horizon while being on tour.
The villagers also expressed their gratitude for such a noble effort.
The aim of Assam Rifles sponsored forth night long tour is to acquaint them with the culture of other states as also with the lifestyles in developed cities and imbibe in them a sense of belonging for their country,says PRO Assam Rifles in a statement here.Besides this project marked the efforts by Assam Rifles towards promoting national integrity & patriotism amongst the local population.
During the course of the tour,the children for the first time will be visiting places of interest at Imphal, Dimapur, Agra and Delhi.
Earlier to enhance the standard of life of the local populace of the Samtal area, 44 Assam Rifles under the guidance of it's sector commander has undertaken numerous civic action activities such as Water Supply Schemes, Provision of Solar Lights, Construction of Community Halls and Playgrounds and assistance on education to villagers for improving their living conditions.
Meanwhile, the 20 AR under the 26 Sector of AR yesterday organised a huge rally of ex-servicemen of Chandel district at Chandel.
The rally was organised with an objective of building up a good relationship between the ex-servicemen and the district administration.
It was the first rally.
IG AR (South), Major General AK Choudhury attended the rally as the chief guest.
Among those dignitaries who attended the rally were DC, Chandel district, Ashok Kumar, SP Chandel, Bimolchandra, Commandant of 26 Sector AR, Brig Balbir Singh etc.
Those who attended the rally as ex-servicemen had earlier served in the Army, Airforce, Navy, BSF, CRPF and other central para miliary forces.
