Under the theme of making them healthier and fitter and to encourage them to come out and socialise, the Manipur Chapter, India of the Special Olympics, International will kick start a Bocce competition along with a health camp for the mentally challenged children at the Khuman Lampak Kangshang, tomorrow.
To make the event more successful and a workshop was held at Hotel Anand Continental today evening.
The workshop was attended by medical professionals, doctors and volunteers.
During the workshop, president of the Special Olympic, Bharat Manipur Chapter, Akhaykumar said that it would greatly help of parents and guardians come out in the open and let their mentally challenged children to socialise.
There should be discrimination of the mentally challenged persons too, he added.
At the moment there are about 200 mentally retarded athletes in Manipur, he informed.
There is also the need to keep such children physically fit and strong, he opined and added that society need to extend all their co-operation to such children.
