Giving a clarion call to Youth Congress to take up the initiative in more serious way for the success of the flagship programmes of the Government, a day-long youth leadership meet was held along with a seminar at State Guest House, Sanjenthong here today.
Organised under the aegis of District Youth Congress Committee (DYCC), Imphal East, the meet was attended by Minister of MOBC, RD & PR and Fisheries Md Allauddin as chief guest, general secretary of MPCC (Youth in-charge) Victor Keishing as guest of honour and vice president of Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress L Chandrakumar Singh and president of Imphal East District Youth Congress Committee Md Alam Azad as presidium members.
Delivering the key note address, Md Alam Azad said flagship programmes of the Government like National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) and National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), etc needs to be monitored constantly to find out whether the benefits of these schemes are reaching the targeted population and the area through evocation of the Rights to Information Act.
Calling upon the youths, particularly the Youth Congress, Md Alam Azad said they are the privilege lot since the Congress party is in power both at the Centre and the State.
So they should take up the initiative in more serious ways through proper channel to ensure the grant success of these flagship programmes.
In his address, Victor stated that organising such leadership programme is of paramount importance for youth.
'We need to stand up now and defy the wrong concepts of today's epoch with rational thoughts', he exhorted the gathering.
Chandrakumar said that Mahila Congress, NSUI and all the Youth Congress should understand the principles of the Congress party as espoused by Mahatma Gandhi.
In his address as chief guest of the function, Minister Allauddin said development of a State or a Nation depends solely on the active involvement of its youth in the Nation building process.
Asking the youth to know their duties and responsibilities, the Minister said timely intervention by youth in critical situation and important issues is a significant force in the world today which is becoming a global village.
In the first session of the seminar moderated by Victor Keishing, SP of Imphal East District Th Radheshyam spoke on the topic of 'Youth and peace' and Project Officer of MOBEDS Md Salauddin Khan spoke on the topic of 'Leadership training' as resource persons.
In the second session, Victor Keishing and general secretary of MPCC Vidyapati Senjam respectively spoke on the topics of 'The role of youth in bringing National integration' and 'The role of Youth Congress in Nation building' as resource persons.
