Three hurt in hydrogen cylinder blast

Imphal, March 27 2011:
Three persons including two women were injured when a hydrogen gas cylinder, used to inflate balloons, exploded at Pishumthong under Singjamei PS in Imphal West district on Sunday around 9 am.
The injured persons, Wahengbam Subadhani Devi (52) wife of late Lukhoi of Kiyamgei Mamang Leikai, Kshetrimayum Manihar (53) of Singjamei Chingamakha and Konjengbam Ibethoi (32) wife of K Maniroton of Pishum Ningom Leirak sustained injuries mostly in their faces.
After attending medical treatment at RIMS hospital, they were discharged, reports said.
The hydrogen gas cylinder belonged to balloon hawker, Janathan Singh (42) son of Ramkanta of Bihar's Sapra district presently residing at Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak.
He escaped unhurt in the explosion.
Singjamei police has registered a case with regard to the incident.
Another such rare incident was reported in Churachandpur district some years back in which the hawker sustained serious injuries.
Noting the incident, DGP Y Joykumar, when contacted by Hueiyen Lanpao over phone,said that police will investigate into the accident and take up appropriate measures to check such dangerous explosions in future.
