Tardy Nambul Project work upsets CM

Imphal, March 27 2011:
A visibly upset Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today lashed out at officials overseeing the Nambul River project as there is a big doubt whether the ongoing retaining wall construction work will be completed before the onset of monsoon.
criss-crossing various parts of the capital city as part of an unannounced inspection visit of numerous ongoing projects, the CM accompanied by Works Minister K Ranjit and other department officials assessed progress of work for the Nambul River Project.
Speaking to newspersons at the work site, O Ibobi said he is not at all amused on seeing the tardiness of the work on the retaining wall, an important component of the Project, envisioned as a flood control measure.
Expressing that the just concluded Yaoshang festival might be a reason for the delay as local labourers might have taken leave for nearly a week, the CM nevertheless issued strong instructions to officials concerned to ensure the remaining works are completed by May this year.

He also reminded the officials that in case rainy seasons starts, construction works would be an uphill task.At the Capitol Project site in Chingmeirong he told newspersons that 70-80 percent construction works have been completed with regard to construction of the Assembly Secretariat, High Court complex, Inter State Bus Terminus (Khuman Lampak) and City Convention Centre (Palace Compound) .
Advising officials of construction agencies that every efforts should be made for overall completion of the said projects, O Ibobi Singh credited the people of Manipur for their cooperation which made it possible for the SPF Govt successfully take up development schemes in the State.
PDA Chairman Kh Loken Singh and Chief Engineer (PWD) M Lokendro along with other top officials accompanied the CM during the inspection tour.
The Nambul River project is being executed under the supervision of IFCD at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crores.
