H Sarat conferred with RK Maipaksana Journalist award

Imphal, October 11 2012:
The RK Maipaksana Journalist Fellowship award for the year 2012 has been conferred to retired Colonel H Sarat, who is a columnist of Naharolgi Thoudang.
The award was handed over to H Sarat by Nabani Shija, wife of late Journalist, RK Maipaksana on the occasion of 88th Birth Anniversary of late RK Maipaksana observance held at the auditorium of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy here today.
The fellowship carries a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and a citation.
Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, Prof H Nandakumar Sharma, VC, Manipur University, said that RK Maipaksana was a renowned journalist of the state who stuck to his journalism ethics and worked to bring out the truth through his writings.
His contribution to in the field of journalism in the light of present scenario of the state is highly appreciable.

The present journalists of the state also should try to perform their duties with sincerity and courage like RK Maipaksana.
A souvenir was also released on the occasion by the Chief Guest.
Presided over by Prof Gangmumei Kamei, the function was also attended Nitin Gokhale, Editor, Security and Strategic Affairs, NDTV, New Delhi as Guest of Honour.
On the occasion, Nitin Gokhale, delivered a speech on the topic of 'Stabilise Manipur before Looking East' .
He said if Look East Policy is to make successful, the first and foremost thing is to stabilize the Northeast which is the transit route to the Southeast Asia.
Gokhale suggested that proper establishment of small scale industries is entailed in order to bring stability in NE and for this, skillful human resource is needed.
Basic infrastructures like roadways, information technologies, schools, health, agriculture and its processing centres will have to be developed by the Government in the region which is a bridge to South East Asia, the journalist suggested.
He also struck a chord that India should first make the NE a flourishing ng region before thinking of developing Myanmar and observed that looking at its location Manipur could become an ideal hub for exporting finished goods to other Southeast Asian countries through Myamnar.
