RK Maipaksana 88th birth anniversary observed

The 88th birth anniversary of late RK Maipaksana was observed today at JN Dance Academy under the aegis of RK Maipaksana Memorial Trust during which Col (retd) H Sarat, columnist of the vernacular daily Naharolgi Thoudang was awarded the RK Maipaksana Journalist Fellowship.
The function was graced by Manipur University VC Prof H Nandakumar as chief guest and Prof Gangmumei Kamei as president.
NDTV New Delhi Editor (Security and Strategic Affairs) Nitin Gokhale delivered a lecture on the topic "Stabilise Manipur Before Looking East" .
RK Maipaksana, born on October 11, 1924, used to work as Editor of the Congress party's vernacular daily Prajatantra.
From 1948 to 1950, Maipaksana served as the Imphal correspondent of the Shillong Times.
He was also the Editor of Janmabhumi from 1949 to 1951.He was awarded the State Journalist Award in 1992.Maipaksana who expired on October 18, 1993 worked as a freelance journalist till the advanced age.
Another main feature of the birth anniversary observance was offering of floral tributes to the photograph of RK Maipaksana.
Prof H Nandakumar said that RK Maipaksana was a popular journalist who highlighted the problems and issues encountered at the grassroots level even though he did not undertook any formal journalism course.
He was also one critical analyst when he was working in the news section of All India Radio, Imphal.
RK Maipaksana was one journalists who had firm faith in democracy.
Just as much as he cherished freedom, Maipaksana was a staunch nationalist.
