Imphal, October 11 2012:
"In order to build a good and welfare society, student community of the state should develop themselves first", exclaimed Aheibam Romen, DDO, SCERT, Manipur.
Aheibam Romen was speaking as Chief Guest of the inaugural function of a day-long workshop on 'School Development and its Issues' organized by DIET unit, SCERT, at its multipurpose hall, Lamphelpat, today.
He further observed that teachers also have a great role to play in polishing the talents of students.
As such, the teachers should be well versed in their respective fields of imparting knowledge to the students.
For this, the teachers should be given the required training.
"The workshop being organized today will enable us to identify the problems faced by the students as well as the teachers in government schools.
Accordingly, necessary recommendations would be adopted which would be subsequently forwarded to the Ministry of Human Resource and Development for doing the needful", he added.
Delivering the Presidential speech, K Ishwar, Officer in-charge of DIET project, recalled that earlier, the students of Primary school level were taught a subject named SUPW (Socially Useful Productive Work).
But by 2002, the name of the subject has been changed to AHP.
However, the teachers have been facing problems in teaching the subject as there are no specific text books available in the market.
Nonetheless, it would be very helpful to the students if the teachers teach their students with the help of the hand book supplied to them by the school authorities, he added.
