Imphal, October 01 2009:
Lamenting over the unawareness of the All Manipur Student Guardians' Association about the goals and objectives of the ongoing people's movement, the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup has raised several posers directed to the guardians.
A press release issued by the Apunba Lup while clarifying that the ongoing movement is in the collective interest of the people but not for personal interest of some groups or individuals, questioned whether members of the guardians' association can bear the pain silently if their children are killed in similar circumstances like those of Rabina and Sanjit.
"Can you bear responsibility of any future killing after the ongoing class boycott announced by the three student bodies is suspended?", the Apunba Lup asked the guardians.
"Would there be any youth left if they are allowed to be killed one after another everyday?", it asked.
Clarifying that question of the Apunba Lup using students as a means never rose, it questioned whether there is any valid reason not to assume those opposing the people's movement, aimed at providing a secure atmosphere to the students, as enemies of the people.
Had the meeting deliberated on realising the people's demands instead of attempting to jeopardise the people's movement at the behest of political leaders, people would have hailed organisers of the meeting, it asserted.
The Apunba Lup asked which is better of the twostudents staying away from schools for sometime or death of students one after another at the hands of security forces.
Asserting that death means defeat and loss of everything, the Apunba Lup pointed out that to be successful, one must be alive.
Had the guardians' association resolved to support the Apunba Lup in its movement aimed at extricating the people from the trap of fake encounters, they would have been certainly treated as genuinely concerned with the plight of the people as well as students.
Taking serious note of the latest incident of targeting media persons by Police Department under the SPF Government, the Apunba Lup remarked that the decision of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union to chastise the Police Department was a timely step against checking human rights violation.
It reiterated that the ongoing people's movement launched under the joint stewardship of the Apunba Lup and the JACs against the killing of pregnant Rabina, Sanjit and injuring five other people due to indiscriminate firing by a team of police commandos in broad day-light in busy Khwairamband market is for all the people of Manipur.
