The Expert Committee set up to study the intricacies to widen roads in Imphal area has submitted its final recommendations to the Government today and once the go ahead nod is given, the process of acquire the necessary land will be set into motion.
The final recommendation was submitted during a meeting convened by PDA Chairman K Ranjit today.
The Committee in its recommendation identified 75 roads to be widened in Greater Imphal area, said a well placed source.
The identified stretches of roads include National Highways, State highways, ODRs, MDRs and IVRs.
As per the recommendation, the stretches on NH-39, NH-150 and NH-53, will have a width of 75 feet on either side of the road.
For State highway, the total width of the road has been pegged at 30 metres, for ODR and MDR from 15 metres to 30 metres and 7 metre to 19 metre in case of IVRs.
The width of the roads may differ at different places, said the source.
The road widening exercise will be taken up once the State Govt gives its approval, informed the source and added that the priority roads are at Singjamei bazar, Khongnang Ani Karak, Nagamapal, Airport road, Chekon, Lamlong bazar, Sagolband road, Uripok road, Kongba, Langol and Nambul Mapal.
For patta lands, the Govt will follow the due process of law while acquiring the land, said the source and added that payable compensation will also be paid.
The meeting also discussed the construction of the proposed tribal market at New Lambulane.
Though the market site has been declared a residential area under the Manipur and Country Planning Act, 1975, the Committee has recommended re-declaring the site as a market area, said the source and added that the recommendation has been submitted to the Government.
The PDA has also decided to take over the 136 quarters leased out by contractors to tenants at Langol Games village.
The meeting decided that the PDA will take up the maintenance work and lease it out itself.
The Govt had earlier decided to sell the quarters and had even started accepting deposits from the intending buyers.
