Imphal, January 28:
Even as the Planning Advisor of the North East Council, PL Thanga has categorically ruled out the possibility of shifting the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) from Manipur, Chief Minister O Ibobi has written to DONER Minister PR Kyndiah seeking a clarification in this connection.
Speaking to The Sangai Express from Shillong today, North East Council (NEC) Planning Advisor PL Thanga today said that there is absolutely no plan to shift RIMS from Imphal to Shillong.
Setting the record straight, the senior IAS officer said that the NEC has not discussed anything along the line of shifting RIMS from Manipur and added that NEC has also not received any suggestions from the member States to shift the institution from Manipur.
"There is no question of shifting RIMS from Manipur," he added categorically.
PL Thanga said that talks doing the round that RIMS may be shifted from Manipur is nothing less than wrong information.
On the other hand, a highly placed source informed The Sangai Express that Chief Minister O Ibobi has personally written to DONER Minister Pr Kyndiah seeking a clarification on the matter.
The source said that the letter was written a few days back and added that apart from seeking a clarification on the matter, the Chief Minister also reminded the DONER Minister that the State Government has not been consulted on any decisions taken in this regard.
The letter also mentioned that such a matter was not discussed during any meeting of the member States or amongst the Governors and Chief Ministers of the North East region.
The State Government is yet to receive a reply from the DONER Minister, added the source.
A few days back, the Chief Minister had during a public meeting announced that the State Government will oppose any move to shift RIMS from Manipur.
When The Sangai Express contacted a top ranking official of the State Health Department, the officer categorically stated that there are no plans to shift RIMS from Manipur.
He also confidently said that such a decision will not be taken without first taking the State Government into confidence.
On the visit of NEC Secretary Dr Kamal Taori, the source said that the NEC official will be here to over see the developmental projects being taken up in the State under funding from the NEC.
Dr Kamal Taori will also hold a DPC to appoint the Superintendent of RIMS, which has been lying vacant for some time now.
Earlier senior physician Dr Th Biren was the Superintendent-in-charge of the institution.
