Imphal, December 28 2008:
With the Naga Peoples' Organisation resuming its economic blockade stir, after a three day relaxation, in view of Christmas, a large number of trucks which were on their way outside the State to procure goods were turned back from Senapati today.
The NPO is demanding the transfer of the Deputy Commissioner of Senapati, Nidhi Kesharwani, on charges of haughtiness and misappropriating developmental funds for the district.
The IAS officer on the other hand has stoutly denied the charges maintaining that she has been discharging her duties and added that all funds are being utilised for the purpose it was released.
A police source said that following the resumption of the agitation, over 50 loaded trucks bound for Imphal from Dimapur are currently stranded at Mao.
President of NPO, M Dilli Mao said, "We have resumed our stir following the expiry of the three days relaxation period.
Some of our volunteers politely turned back some trucks to Imphal.
However vehicles and passenger vehicles are exempted from the purview of the economic blockade.
"We have been launching different modes of agitations for the last eight months and we will continue to do so until the DC is removed from Senapati.
There will be no compromise on our stand," further said Dili Mao.
Meanwhile security has been beefed up along NH-39, especially at Senapati where the NPO is based.
A police officer informed that "The police have been put on high alert in and around Senapati district headquarters so that free movement of goods trucks are not disturbed.
So far there has been no untoward incident".
Allegations and counter allegations have abounded, with some backing the DC and others opposing her.
