NAB seizes drugs from Airport, yet again

Even as State Police commandos caught PRO (Defence Wing) Colonel Ajay Chowdhry along with five others including an assistant manager in charge of security staff of Indigo Airlines while trying to smuggle psychotropic drugs worth around 15 crore into Myanmar at Pallel in Chandel district in the morning yesterday, personnel of Narcotic & Affairs of Border (NAB) seized another huge consignment of Petas-TR tablets which has the components of Pseudoephedrine worth around Rs 8 lakhs from the Imphal Airport on the same day in the evening.
Briefing media in this connection today, Inspector RK Bikramjit Singh, Officer-in-charge, NAB said that acting on specific information that some illegal substances are being transported in a cargo flight, he along with a team of personnel rushed in to Tulihal Airport under the supervision of Md Ishak Shah, Superintendent of Police, NAB, around 3:35 pm yesterday.
The team was looking for the drug consignment when one non-Manipuri in mid- thirties was seen standing near the public parking lot along with the suspected goods in carton boxes.
The NAB team immediately detained him.
On checking the carton boxes, 1,03,500 tablets of Petas-TR which contain Pseudoephedrine were found and accordingly impounded.
The detained non-Manipuri has been identified as Rajkumar Rai (32), s/o Ramananda Rai of Tulsipur, Bihar but presently staying in a rented house near Anand Continental, Thangal Bazaar, Imphal.
The illegal drugs have been sent through one courier service namely Skylark Express, Thangal Bazar but the name of the sender has not been written on the cover of the boxes.
The estimated cost of the seized drugs is said to be worth around Rs 8 lakh in the International grey market.
Rajkumar Rai has been taken into police custody and along with registering a regular FIR case against him; further investigation is on in connection with the seizure.
