Imphal, February 25 2013:
Demanding the immediate and unconditional release of the general secretary of KYKL (MDF) and a 'Lieutenant' who were apprehended by police personnel a couple of days back, the KYKL (MDF) said the cadres of the outfit along with their arms should be returned to their respective camps within 24 hours.
Addressing media persons today at the Manipur Press Club, Meisnam Athouba, an SS President of KYKL (MDF), a signatory group of MoU with the Government, said the outfit's general secretary Ronel Sharam alias Achouba and 'Lt' Nongpoknganba were apprehended by Lamphel police on Feb 23 last at RIMS.
Pointing out that two of their members went to RIMS to meet the Director on three occasions to beg the RIMS authority for medical assistance to cadres of the outfit who were now involved in the peace process, M Athouba dismissed the charge that the two members were arrested while extorting money.
The MDF cadres were accompanied by AR Personnel when they were arrested by the police.
As such, the two arrested members should be released immediately and unconditionally, the outfit's president demanded while also adding that action should be initiated against the personnel involved in the arrest.
Further, the DGP should apologise for rejecting the plea of the AR authority for the release of the two members, the president demanded.
He also demanded action against RIMS Director for framing fallacious charges against the two members.
If the demands were not fulfilled within 24 hours, the govt should return all the cadres along with arms to their camps besides terminating the peace process, the MDF demanded.
