Imphal, March 29 2009:
At least 50 persons including several women sustained injuries and three cattles�one bull and two cows were killed in an accident which occurred around 8.50 am today on Tiddim road near Malom Tulihal under the jurisdiction of Nambol Police Station.
The mishap happened when the driver of the bus tried to make way for some vehicles of security forces which were over-taking and fell into a gorge on the roadside.
But in the manoeuvre, the bus hit three cattles which died on the spot and most of the 50 passengers in the bus sustained injuries.
Reports from the spot said that the convoy of the security forces drove away without stopping while the bus met with the accident.
The bus was carrying about 50 persons in traditional white dresses, who were coming from Moirang to Patsoi in Imphal West district to take part in a Shradh.
Among the three cattles two were said to be pregnant cows and one was bull.
The cattles belong to one Soibam Prafullo residing at Malom Tulihal.
The injured persons were taken to RIMS hospital where they were given treatment.
All of them have been discharged, hospital sources said.
